He took a cigarette [hu laqa7 sigariya] - הוּא לקח סיגריה


and she took a piece of chocolate [vehi laq7a 7atikhat shoqolad]
‫והיא לקחה חתיכת שוֹקוֹלד.


to be [lihiyot] - להיות


He wasn't faithful, but she was faithful. [hu lo haya ne'eman aval hi hayita ne'emana]
‫הוּא לא היה נאמן אבל היא הייתה נאמנה.


He had no luck, only back luck [lo haya lo mazal, ela bish mazal]
‫לא היה לוֹ מזל אלא ביש מזל.


He wasn't nice/friendly, but not friendly. [hu lo haya ne7mad, ela lo ne7mad]
‫הוּא לא היה נחמד, אלא לא נחמד.


Do you have the adress? I had it now. [yesh lekha et haktovet? haya li karega3]
‫יש לך את הכתוֹבת? היה לי אוֹתה כרגע.


Why couldn't you arrive on time? [lama lo yakhota/ yakholt lehagi3a bazman?]

I couldn't come on time because there was no bus. [lo yakholti lavo bazman ki lo haya otobus]
